Market characteristics
- Centering and print quality can drive grade scarcity.
- Wax and gum damage can be issue-specific.
- Eye appeal can vary widely inside one grade.
What to compare
Match the exact year, set, card number, player, variation, grade, grading company, qualifier and holder condition. For modern cards, identify color, refractor or parallel, serial numbering and autograph status.
Population and liquidity
A low population can reflect genuine condition rarity, low submission volume or a card that collectors rarely grade. Compare completed sales and the number of active buyers before treating a small population as automatic value.
